Coverage Miu Miu - Resort 2020

Hello Girls,

This Saturday, June 29 took place the annual Fashion Show of Miu Miu, launching its collection Resort 2020. The Fashion Show took place in Paris, in the Hippodrome, and had as its main theme a jockey style mixed with the classic style "princess" characteristic of the brand.

The brand bet on the universe of horses, bringing related prints and also stylized horseshoes. In this collection, the brand brought the catwalks six trends that I decided to point out as the main highlights of the fashion show.

1- Several tailoring pieces, with sleeves not so tight, more belted, in the case of blazers all with a longer length, tailoring shorts also had a not so short length.

2- In addition to the tailoring, the brand also bet on buffing sleeves, a little princess style, which was perfectly combined with different prints, creating a mix of prints between the sleeves and the rest of the clothes. The brand rescued the buffing sleeves of the '80s, bringing modernity to this, which has been one of the trends seen in the summer of 2019.

3- In addition to prints inspired by the equine world, tailor-made pieces and buffing sleeves, the brand also bet on the iconic plaid pattern Principe de Wales, which is extremely sophisticated, even more, if combined with classic pieces of tailoring, slightly modernized. But it was not only Miu Miu who decided to give life to chess but Prada also in its last Resort 2020, decided to bet on the trend of the nineteenth century invented by the Countess of Seafield in Scotland, where it was part of the uniform of their bodyguards.

4- The famous well-worn belt, used extensively in the 1920s and then returned to the fashion world in the 1980s from Cristian Dior, takes up space on the brand's catwalks. Lots of high-waisted clothing from shorts combined with tailoring, to leather shorts combined with low-cut shirts and oversized sleeves, with belts used to mark the waist better.

5- Miu Miu decided to modernize a little the collars, bringing them longer giving an idea of V-neck, deeper necklines. The brand turned classic white shirts into versatile shirts, modern, feminine, delicate and at the same time imparting a slightly seductive idea.

6- Horseshoes were not enough, horse prints, the brand also decided to change a little bit its iconic platform sandals, this time bringing the platforms in slush.

Thus the brand ends its fabulous parade, bringing innovations and beautiful pieces.

Le Coup de Soleil - Jacquemus

Hello Girls,

During this Tuesday 25th of June, the amazing fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus presented his fashion show, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the brand,  during the Paris Fashion Week Men's, but the thing is, it wasn't just a simple and pretty fashion show, was the most beautiful fashion show the world has ever seen. Jacquemus chose the most perfect and unimaginable location of all, a field of lavender located in the city of Valensole (Provance) in the South of France.

The designer said he wanted to change the pattern of fashion shows that always takes place in the French capital, Paris. So he decided to go after something that went beyond his life story, saying that much of his childhood was in the countryside. The idea of doing in a field of lavender, where the walkway was a huge pink carpet between the crops, had as main focus transmit the sensation of the horizon, something infinite, like an escape plan, where what is near becomes great and visible and the measure that is distancing is diminishing and becoming less visible. This was what happened when the models were passing through the catwalk.

The innovations of Jacquemus did not stop there, the incredible designer also made history in its Fashion Show, parading feminine pieces during a Paris Fashion Week Man. During an interview with Vogue Simon affirmed that his main inspiration to the color palette and moodboard was like "a tequila sunrise", using vibrant colors such as orange, pink, green, purple, the colors used are primarily vibrant, but in some parts it is possible to realize that Jacquemus makes use of these in a more pastel way, the stylist also chooses to bring the oversized to the catwalks.

Other aspects we can observe is that Simon Jacquemus used a lot of fluid fabrics mixed with heavier fabrics, as we can see in the image above, in which there is a pleated and fluid skirt with the overlap of a shirt full of pockets, oversized (less delicate) and a more rigid and less fluid that skirt. But this combination is perfect because it brings a more street and cool air to clothes, combining similar tones (monochrome), overlapping different fabrics and textures, and using an oversized piece on a more delicate piece, bringing a contrast.

Besides the use of oversized pieces, monochromatic style and overlapping of different fabrics (something that can be seen in almost every piece), Jacquemus also rescued a bit of tailoring, taking a classic and modern cut and giving this a more romantic air, referring to the field. It is also possible to observe, taking as base the image above that not only the tailoring was rescued, but he also modernized the "belted style", using the same idea but the less tight, idea that was brought back by Christian Dior in the '80s. The hat also reminisces a bit in the '50s with a more country style.

The use of tailor-made pieces with a more bare and modern touch was also present during the spring/summer 2020 collection of the brand.

Once again the brand ends the season with great success, but not only this Jacquemus made not only a Fashion Show but a real spectacle that will be remembered eternally for its genuine beauty.

Fashion: The Art that goes Hand in Hand with History

Hello girls,

I know that for a long time we have not talked, and I have to admit that I really missed coming here to share ideas, concepts, thoughts, experiences with you guys. So I decided to create what we can call a weekly issue, in which we will talk a little about how fashion and art are directly related to the political, economic and socio-cultural period in which humanity finds itself. I decided to call this week issue board as Fashion: the art that goes hand in hand with history.
You are probably asking yourself why I came up with this specific topic today, I want to show that fashion it is much more than only trends and cool outfits, fashion is art, and art by its definition is the way people express their feelings, thoughts, concerns and also the reality they're facing. During the years the Fashion Industry developed a lot during the years until nowadays. The fashion industry is nothing less than a reflection of what the society of that time is living. Let's start by doing an analysis of some historical periods and how the fashion world responded to those events. Let's begin analyzing 90's until 1930. During the '90s the aristocratic society lived in England during a period known as "Victorian Era", in which Queen Victoria after losing her husband Albert, entered into a deep depression that was responsible for changing the direction of fashion. So women began to use more closed and darker colors, such as black, navy blue, gray, high collars almost always worked in lace, more straight cuts without so many details. After her death, the fashion world undergoes another transformation, the second Industrial Revolution started. The year of 1900 was at the height of the Industrial Revolution, the labor that was previously required for every piece of clothing to be manufactured, was now no longer needed, machines had taken over all the fashion confections. And not only did the production change, but the way women dressed also, the waistline was no longer as marked as before, the dresses were long and slightly tapered with light, fluid fabrics and the top with delicate work such as lace, sophisticated embroidery, ties, furs, stones that were responsible for transmitting a charming and feminine air to the piece. Although the manufactured labor gained space in the fashion world during this period, the people belonging to the high-income social classes had their own tailors, who were responsible for manufacturing exclusive and impeccable pieces, which in the future will be called Haute Couture.

In the 1920s, we had a great transformation in the fashion world, which originated in the United States, where dresses are no longer long and delicate, they're shorter, full of information, embroidery, beading, fringes, shine, and lush colors. The United States was in one of its most glorious moments, the economy was getting better, Americans' quality of life was excellent, and the new opportunities that America could offer were tempting. And the fashion was only a reflection of that, the lustfulness showed a certain power, showed wealth, elite, moment that society lived, the peak of glamor, great parties, jazz had burst and American families were more and richer.

During the 1930s unlike the 1920s, glamour was over, modern society no longer had as much money to spend on jewelry, partying, embroidered clothing and high luxury, The economy was not at all good and the big millionaires had gone into bankruptcy. The clothes that once represented luxuries from beginning to end now become simpler, without large embroidery, more monochromatic fabrics, combinations within the same color palette, clothes that did not mark the feminine curves much but were not quite wide. Different types of hats and accessories were used on the head. During the 1930s the fashion was moving towards innovative transformations, thanks to the iconic Gabrielle Coco Chanel, today women use several pieces of clothing that were previously exclusively masculine, such as the blazer, which in 1930 Chanel decided to create the feminine tailleur (blazer and skirt in the same fabric), which was intended to be worn with false pearl necklaces (breaking the pattern established by society at a time when only the elite could make use of precious stones). The fact that men's pieces adhered to the feminine dressing room is small evidence that women were already looking for changes within the male chauvinist society in which they lived, they already sought to gain space in the labor market and recognition before the society of the time, that made it a matter of detracting the female potential in many sectors.

Due to all these historical events, fashion has been molding itself to what we know today, and like any art form, it is in constant metamorphosis.

Hope you guys enjoyed our first FASHION VS HISTORY. We will be talking about many different periods and important moments of fashion during the years until nowadays.
Love,
Sofia C
